Coaching for Transition to Retirement

We see the transition to retirement as a continuation, not an end point. Retirement today is very different to what it was 20, 30, 50 years ago. There is no default or contractual retirement age, people live longer and retirement can take many forms.

Many people consult with a financial advisor to plan for retirement, however this tends to be limited to understanding and managing the financial aspects of retirement. This is of course important, but it isn’t the only aspect to consider when making the most of your time in later life.

We work with organisations and individuals to consider broader questions around the transition to retirement such as identity, purpose, social connectivity, wellbeing and goals. Typically, our clients will be starting to consider retirement in the next 2-5 years but this isn’t a hard and fast rule.

How it Works

We will always start by talking to you, whether you are an employer looking to support your workforce by providing a pre-retirement programme, an individual investing in your own future or an advisor looking to augment your offering. Our Transition to Retirement modular programme has two distinct elements, which can be used in combination or individually.

Team Workshop

Delivered on a modular basis, with the option to attend a workshop, in-house for employees or open workshops with a mix of other people at a similar stage.

The purpose of this workshop is to start identifying the areas of priority for you as you transition towards retirement.

Individual Coaching

Individual coaching can focus on priorities identified in a workshop or may be a stand-alone option. For couples planning their retirements, coaching can be with both partners together.

The aim is to facilitate planning around the broader aspects of retirement.

Transition to Retirement Case Study

We worked with a client who was coming to the end of a successful career spent with one employer. He hadn’t considered how the transition would affect his sense of identity and how loss of his busy calendar would impact his feeling of being needed by others.

We worked together to identify what a good retirement might look like and to create a project plan to move towards this, finding short-term ways to structure his days in a meaningful way.

Of his coaching experience he said “I wish I’d considered these aspects of retirement earlier on as I was completely taken by surprise when I stopped working. This experience has been really valuable and I highly recommend it.”

We are happy to talk through this service in more detail. If you are considering this for your organisation or you are an individual, please get in touch to arrange a 30 minute discovery call, with no obligation and in complete confidence.

Feedback from our Clients
